LANCASHIRE libraries and museums are offering a weekend of free artistic, scientific and cultural activities for all ages on the weekend of October 6 and 7.

The events are part of the national 'Fun Palaces' festival of art and science inspired by theatre director Joan Littlewood over 50 years ago at the Theatre Royal Stratford in London,

The workshops and other activities start on the morning of Saturday October 6 at venues across the county and include Lego robotics, computer coding and growing your own crystals

Libraries taking part include Longridge, Rawtenstall, Accrington, Barrowford, Clayton Green, Clitheroe, Nelson, and Burnley Campus. Clitheroe Castle will also take part.

Cllr Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council's culture boss said: "Fun Palaces is a super event that gives people the opportunity to enjoy and get involved in arts and science. It has really grown in popularity in Lancashire. When we held this event for the first time in 2013 we had one venue taking part, this year we have 21. The weekend is created by, for, and with local people."
