A lawyer is taking on an Ultra Marathon in Namibia to raise money for Save the Rhinos.

Michelle Hincks, from Langho, only began running in 2010 and completed her first marathon in 2016.

But in November, the 34-year-old, who attended Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, will tackle the 156 mile Namibian Desert Ultra, aiming to complete the gruelling race over five days and raise money for Save the Rhinos.

She said: "I entered my first 10km in 2010 and in 2016 I entered my first marathon.

"Since then I've run marathons and more recently, ultra-marathons.

"I remember finishing my first half marathon in 2011, almost in tears, promising myself I'd never ever do a marathon - how times have changed."

Fascinated by people who run extreme distances, Mrs Hincks decided to try it out for herself, and after a trip to the country in 2017 opted for the Namibian Desert Ultra.

She said: "While I was in Namibia I was working on an anti-poaching and illegal wildlife trade project.

"The race finish line is at the Namibian Save the Rhino Trust's desert outpost, so it seemed fitting that the fundraising should be for this cause."

Mrs Hincks is running the race alone, but will be spurred on by her husband, Carl Willcock, who is helping to man some of the water stations along the route.

She said: "The race is split into five stages and the aim is to complete each stage and get to the finish."

The first three days of the race are all over a marathon, the fourth day approximately 15 miles, and the final day about 55 miles.

Each night Mrs Hincks will camp in the desert with basic facilities and will have to take mandatory first aid equipment and camping gear with her on the run.

She said: "I will have to carry a minimum of 2.5 litres of water and enough salt tablets to replace the salt I lose.

"I have to carry all my kit every day; the only thing that the race crew provide are the tents.

"I don't know what to expect in terms of how the heat will affect me, but I'm hoping to complete it and raise at least £500 for the charity."

Michelle leaves for Namibia on November 17 and will start the race on November 20.
