Hyndburn Park Primary School is being featured in this month's edition of the Parliamentary Review after receiving national praise for 'good practice in education.'

The Accrington School has made huge improvements since 2010, when it was one of the 200 poorest performing primary schools in England.

And despite four-fifths of its pupils coming from the most deprived households in England, with 98 per cent having Pakistani backgrounds with English as an additional language, the school is now rated 'good' by Ofsted.

Headteacher, Wendy Tracey, has helped lead the school's transformation since her appointment eight years ago.

She said: "It was great to visit parliament to talk about what we've done at the school and really nice to have some good news about Lancashire in the review.

"It helped me realise the importance of our achievements and it is a privilege to be involved and feature in the Parliamentary Review."

As well as focusing on schools, the review also recognises examples of good leadership from public and private sector organisations.

Lancashire County Councillor Susie Charles, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools, said: "It's tremendous news that one of our schools is being recognised as an example of good practice in the Parliamentary Review.

"Congratulations to Wendy and the staff. They have done a superb job of turning the school around.

The Parliamentary Review outlines areas of excellence and relevant issues for teachers, communities and policymakers.

These are featured alongside commentary on the education sector from former education secretary and Review chairman, Lord Blunkett.

Hyndburn Park is being showcased in the prestigious publication by chief editor, the Rt Hon David Curry, as an example of good practice in education.

Mrs Tracey added: "I'm really pleased to be representing the school, Lancashire and the county council.

"The staff have been fantastic in helping achieve the 'good' Ofsted rating and now we just want to carry on getting better and better.

"We want to make our children and parents proud of Hyndburn Park – that's the key thing."
