A MAN who fancied a takeaway took his sister’s hire car to carry out the errand.
Raqib Ali, 23, of Hare Clough Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty at the town’s magistrates to taking a car without consent, driving other that in accordance with a licence and without insurance.
Sarah Aslam, defending, said the car keys had been left in the house when his sister went out.
“He foolishly took the car to get something to eat,” said Miss Aslam.
“He has had some driving lessons and passed his theory test the week before and there was no complaint about the standard of his driving.”
Ali was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 220 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.
His licence was endorsed with eight penalty points.
