A FILM company working on a documentary about a historic tower has asked people to come forward to tell their 'amazing' stories.

Darwen Tower will be the centre of a new documentary, This is Darwen, filmed by Northern Heart Films, who are based in the town centre.

It will celebrate the 120th anniversary since Jubilee Tower was first constructed and will be used as part of a campaign to raise over £100,000 to repair the town landmark.

Bosses at the Railway Road company want Darreners to tell them about their memorable moments of the 120-year-old tower, which will be filmed as part of the documentary.

Film producer Scott Bradley, who is one of the leading pioneers of the documentary, said he is excited about the project.

He said: "Growing up in Blackburn I would look out of my bedroom window and could see Darwen Tower.

"It looked more like a rocket to me when I was younger.

"Everyone has their own amazing stories to tell about Darwen Tower.

"Whether it's about the roof falling off or someone walking up there every day."

The company were commissioned to make a short film about the history of Darwen Tower. The first part of the Darwen documentary will focus on the history of the tower and the second part will centre around the stories about the tower told by locals.

Bosses expect the filming to be completed at the start of October and hope to complete editing by the end of October. An official release date of the documentary has yet to be determined.

The 30-year-old, who lives in Darwen town centre, added: "It's 120 years since it was built this year and it needs a lot of repairs.

"It's good to get people engaged in the town and some pride.

"The film will be educational and used as part of the campaign to guarantee funds for the repairs and we hope it would be used at film festivals."

The film's run time is expected to be between five and eight minutes long and there are hopes it will be screened in a local venue.
