A MUM-of-three left two of her children in the house alone while she drove their gran home – after an evening drinking.

Blackburn magistrates heard Charlotte Louise Ainslie had her third child in the Vauxhall Astra when she returned home to find police – alerted by a number of abandoned 999 calls – knocking on her door.

The care worker and aspiring nurse was subsequently found to be more than double the legal drink drive limit.

Ainslie, 31, of Bailey Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

Lancashire Telegraph:

She was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £115 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said when police arrived at the address they could hear a child crying and the voice of another youngster.

The court heard her three children are aged two, three and 10.

Mrs Yates said: "While the police were trying to gain access a car pulled up, driven by the defendant.

“Asked if she had been drinking she said she'd had a few earlier but wasn’t over the limit.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

A roadside breath test gave a reading of 82 – against the limit of 35 – and a subsequent test at the police station gave a reading of 75.

Mrs Yates said the former Darwen Vale High School student had been given a conditional caution for child neglect, due to the incident on August 29.

Richard Prew, defending, said it had been a “monumental mistake and error of judgement” on the night.
