GYM visitors have been warned that they may be being watched by thieves as they park their cars.

A handbag was stolen from the boot of a woman's car while she visited the Natural Progression Gym, North Valley Road, Colne, on Friday.

A hole had been drilled in the door to damage the lock, and the thief discarded the handbag in nearby Crown Way, after taking the £30 cash that was in the purse, and a pair of £200 designer glasses.

Police said the incident was very similar to one last week, in which a handbag was stolen from the boot of a car at Pendle Leisure Centre, Crown Way.

Sergeant John Fryer said: "These people are doing everything they can to avoid crime and storing their bags locked and out of sight.

"It's clear that whoever is responsible for this has been watching the women, and knows that if they are at the gym they are likely to be there for at least an hour."
