A mum threatened to kill her landlord and herself when a social worker turned up at her Burnley home, a court heard.

The town's magistrates were told how Victoria Porter, 26, had a large knife in one hand and her two-year-old son in the other arm.

The defendant threatened to jump off a bridge, Burnley Magistrates were told.

Porter, of Hargrave Road, Burnley, admitted breaching the peace and was bound over in the sum of £100 for six months.

David Hartley, prosecuting, said the social worker went to see the landlord who said he had been getting threats.

The social worker went back to Porter's house, the child was in a pram and Porter was shouting she was going to kill herself.

Police arrived and the defendant, with the knife in her hand, was crying, threatening to kill herself and shut herself in the bedroom. She was asked to calm down, would not give up the knife and was arrested.

The defendant, who was not represented, told the court she had not meant what she said and was angry at the time.

Porter said she only wanted safety for her and her son and had just wanted jobs doing at her house.

She claimed she had been bullied by her social worker, who said she wasn't bothered if she jumped off a bridge.

The defendant added: "I just want my son back and to forget what's happened."
