WORK will continue this weekend on improvements to M65 Junctions 5 and 6 of the M65.

The £350,000 project in two phases aims to provide smoother and more reliable journeys around the Guide and Whitebirk turn-offs for Blackburn.

The first stage involves adding a second lane to the exit slip road along the westbound carriageway at junction 5.

While Highways England is doing this work it will be totally closed at weekends between 9pm each Friday and 5am on the following Monday. Clearly-signed diversions will be in place.

The second phase of work, along the actual westbound carriageway at junction 6, will take place over the weekend beginning Friday October 12.

It will be improve drainage and flood resilience.

The carriageway will be totally closed between 10pm on Friday October 12 and 5am on Monday October 15 but an ‘up and over’ diversion, leaving the M65 at the exit slip road and rejoining it via the entry slip road, will be in place.
