FUNDING has been pledged to enable dozens of young people from a Harper Green estate to go on a Christmas excursion.

Bolton Council has confirmed that it will give £750 over to the Flower Estate Residents Association to organise the annual event.

This year, it is anticipated the group will enjoy a trip to the jungle-themed adventure play area, Amazonia, in Bolton Market Place.

The funding pledge, which has been given for a number of years by the council, was made at the Harper Green area forum on Thursday night.

A total of £1,000 has also been pledged to Rishwith Residents Association, towards community activities.

Pat Duckworth, chair of the Flower Estate Residents Association, said: "We requested some money to run a Christmas party for the kids on the estate.

"Beverley Mort, from the Association, has arranged for us to take a group of young people to Amazonia.

"In previous years we have had as many as 100 kids going to these Christmas events.

"It is incredibly important for the community. These youngsters need something like this to look forward to."

The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 9 from 5.30pm.
