ACCRINGTON duo Catherine Derbyshire and Josh Woodstock had a splashing time at the Yarrow River Splash 10k.

Accrington Road Runner Derbyshire was the first female across the line at the Chorley course on Sunday, clocking 50 minutes and 47 seconds, with clubmate Woodstock third overall with a time of 44.02.

The club was well represented on the day, with 22 members taking part in a total of 274 participants.

And they brought home the men’s and ladies’ team prizes.

Woodstock, Glen Goodwin and Chris Walton ran well for the men for their first placed finish, with Goodwin finishing fourth in 44.31 and Walton seventh in 45.38.

Derbyshire was well supported by Nancy Bailey, who stopped the clock on 55.58, and Michele Baker, who finished in 57.34, for their collective success.

In addition V50 Goodwin, FV55 Bailey, FV50 Baker and FV60 Janet Hoyle all won age category prizes. Woodstock and Derbyshire also won their categories but these prizes were passed on due to them already winning position prizes.

The course was entirely trail and track based through Chorley’s Yarrow Valley, and as an unusual feature it includes the crossing of two rivers at the end of the race, hence the splash.

Accrington Road Runners had the biggest turn-out of the East Lancashire clubs, but there were also entrants from Chorley Runners, Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club, Trawden Athletic Club, Darwen Running Group and Ossy Joggers.

Dylan Grindley was the best of the rest outside of Accrington, with the Chorley Athletic and Triathlon senior runner crossing the line in 52.52 to finish 32nd overall.

Clubmate Anya Town-send came in just after the hour mark to finish 14th female and 89th overall in one hour, one minute and 23 seconds.

There was a six-strong turnout of Trawden Athletic Club runners in the female category, with Karen Windle leading that particular pack.

Windle, who was fourth FV55 home, finished in 1:11:16, while clubmates Lindsay Whitham, Diane Ford and Elaine Holdsworth crossed the line one after the other further down the pack.

Lee Ford was the club’s only male representative, finishing in the top 100 overall and in the top 10 in the V45 category with a respectable 1:02:07.

Heather Laycock of Darwen Running Group was the third FV55 in 1:08:51.

Emily Tasker was the first to finish from Chorley Runners in 1:09:22, while Ossy Joggers Andrew and Jennifer Barlow finished together, clocking 1:22:05 and 1:22:09 respectively.
