IN his latest column Adam Morgan discusses the latest race at Silverstone.

WE are gearing up for the final weekend of the British Touring Car Championship season and, from our point of view, there is plenty still to play for.

We will head to Brands Hatch the weekend after next looking to finish third in the Championship and second in the Independents.

It’s so tight, particularly in the main championship, and I could finish anywhere between third and eighth. It will be a case of head down, elbows out and getting to work.

A third place finish would be fantastic for the whole team and a real reward for the hard work everyone has put in.

It’s become a very real possibility following a positive meeting at Silverstone last weekend.

I must admit, I was a bit worried at lunchtime on Saturday because we were 26th and 22nd in free practice one and two respectively and I was scratching my head as to why we were so far down the grid.

I got the mechanics to look at numerous different parts of the car and, when we looked at the data, there was only one thing we could blame – driver error!

I’m usually very patient in getting the best out of the car but, on this occasion, I was guilty of over-driving. I was certainly quick to apologise to the mechanics!

The good news is that I had learned from my mistakes by the time it really mattered, in qualifying.

We were happy with ninth place on the grid and to move that up to sixth by the end of race one was really pleasing.

The pace felt really good in race two and, after a good start got me up to fifth, I was determined to keep making progress.

We were able to do that and to come away with second spot was a result I didn’t think we would be celebrating at the start of the weekend.

Race three was definitely the most difficult of the weekend. It was almost a perfect triple-header storm against us – a track that doesn’t particularly suit us, on the harder compound tyre and with huge weight.

It was a case of having to defend at every single point of the race and I’d have been happy if we could have clung on to the top 15 to stay in the points.

Unfortunately, we narrowly failed to do that but that didn’t really take any of the gloss off the weekend.

We’d managed to climb from seventh to tied fourth in the championship – and we head to Brands Hatch with it all to play for.
