Derby County boss Frank Lampard felt his side put in their best performance of the season in the 0-0 draw with Rovers and was frustrated not to have come away with the three points.

The Rams boss felt his side’s display had everything but the goals as Rovers defended resiliently to hold out for a point.

David Raya made two good saves in the first half while Mason Mount curled a 25 yard free-kick on to the crossbar in the second, but Rovers left with a point after an improved display after the break.

“Over thee 90 minutes, I think it was,” Lampard said when asked if it was his side’s best display so far.

“It's hard to sustain it, because the other team are obviously going to come out a bit in the second half and try to stop you doing what you've been doing so well.

“But if you'd just put the icing on the cake with three, four or five goals, it wouldn't have flattered us.

“It was just one of those games.

“We should have been probably two or three up by half-time.

“The first half was particularly good, I thought, and we created more chances in the second half.

“The performance was top, it's what I want out of us.

“It's what we've worked on from the first day of pre-season, to play like that - with confidence on the ball, positions on the pitch, work rate off the ball to win it back high up the pitch, creating chances, and movement.

“Everything but the goals.”
