A TOWN market hall is offering cheap pop-up temporary stalls to attract would-be traders.
The special leases in Darwen range from £15 a day for a table top stall or a Christmas offer from £50 per week for three months.
They are aimed at makers of craft goods, interesting food and drink producers or specialist traders.
Blackburn with Darwen Council is pushing the special pop-up offers for the Autumn and winter with a special emphasis on the Christmas festive season.
Darwen East Liberal Democrat Councillor Roy Davies said: "With a population of 30,000, I honestly think the town is worth more than few pop-up stalls.
"If they want traders to come, why did they not build shops in the new development on the former three-day market site?"
Darwen East Labour Councillor Dave Smith said: "This is a sensible way to try and attract new traders to test the water while there are charities and others groups who want a stall for just a day or a week,
"The borough council has spent some money refurbishing the market hall and has attracted new permanent stallholders.
"When the public open space on the old three-day market site is finished there will be shop units available."
Traders are interested in the trial pop-up offers or opening for the festive season, give the Darwen Market team a call on (01254) 585151 or contact via the website www.darwenmarket.com and click on rent a stall.
