AN INSPIRATIONAL grandmother has been hailed a hero after completing the Bury 10k — following two hip replacements.

Marie Caldwell, aged 81, wowed the crowds as she ran the Asda Foundation Bury 10K 2018 on Sunday, and then proceeded to participate in the children's race alongside three of her grandchildren.

She joined siblings Joseph, aged 10, Alex, aged 12, and six-year-old Georgie Pennington as they took part in the 1.4k Arena Group Bury Family Fun Run.

The children were raising money for Forget Me Not Children's Hospice, which runs a children's hospice in Dumers Lane.

Meanwhile, Ms Caldwell was fundraising for Arthritis Research in Bury.

Daughter Rachel Pennington said: "I'm really proud of them all — especially my 81-year-old mum who has had two new hips in the last five years or so."
