A MAN committed a burglary at a Blackburn business just three days after he was released from prison.

Blackburn magistrates heard that since the offence was committed in March, Jamie Lee King had served another custodial sentence.

King, 25, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to burglary at Howden's Joinery and theft of a bottle of champagne and cash.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 15 days' rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered to pay £25 compensation.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the burglar alarm was activated at 3am and the key holder arrived to find an untidy search of the offices had been made and there had been an attempt to open a safe.

"DNA from blood found at the scene was a match for the defendant," said Miss Allan.

Mark Williams, defending, said since his release from his latest sentence King had been working with the probation service who had been trying to find him some accommodation.

"He had an appointment with the housing officer but was attacked and suffered broken ribs and a broken arm and was in hospital," said Mr Williams.
