THIS week we delve into the archives of the Lancashire Telegraph and learn about an old festival which took place at a college.
The photo, which was taken on March 1, 1968, shows a procession of Queens - in dress and all.
The queens came from churches in Blackburn for the Festival of Queens at Blackburn College of Technology and Design.
A princely £368 was raised for the National Children's Home by selling "Sunny Smiles" pictures.
The money was handed over by representatives of churches and schools that had taken part during the special event.
Mrs Sutcliffe, wife of the chairman received the gifts.
The procession of queens was received by the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn, Cllr Florence Lewis and Miss Gwenda Lewis.
Mr Cyrill Jackson, a musical clown, entertained after musical items were given by Everton High School choir and recorder group.
Mr John B. Farmer, of the National Children's Home, thanked all those responsible for raising money which showed a £100 increase on the total of the year before.
Prayers were led by the Rev Herbert Raynor and Miss Heather Scott was pianist. The event was described by attendees a "big success".
