AN operation to crack down on thieves who are targeting rural villages is continuing after another spree of thefts at the start of September.

Operation Orpheus was launched in August in response to crimes in Balderstone, Osbaldeston, Mellor and Ramsgreave in which stone troughs, benches and other items were taken.

During the first week of this month there was a surge in vehicle crime in Balderstone and Osbaldeston.

Sgt Rob Evans, of Clitheroe police, said a number of vans were broken in to and cash and other documents were taken from the vehicles.

He said the thefts involved using a screwdriver to open the vans, most of which were parked in Osbaldeston Lane.

If you have information regarding the thefts ring Clitheroe police on 01200 458734 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
