THE last Lancashire County Council care home for older people in Burnley will shut.
The authority's ruling Cabinet confirmed the closure of Lower Ridge in Belvedere Road.
The its adult services boss Cllr Graham Gooch said the 50-year-old home was too expensive and outdated to continue to run or redevelop.
He told the meeting: "The council cannot afford to continue to pouring money down the drain."
Cllr Gooch said there was an alternative care home, also rated good by inspectors, in Padiham just 3.7 miles away.
He promised that within five years the county council would build a new modern 'extra care' complex for the elderly in the town of Burnley.
Campaigner against the closure Diane Walmsley, whose 79-year-old grandmother Dotty lives at Lower Ridge, said: "This decision is no surprise but still sad and disappointing. A new extra care home in five years is no good for my mother."
