THREE residents have objected to plans to turn a historic gatehouse into an Indian restaurant.

Carr Bank Lodge in Ramsbottom Lane, Ramsbottom, has been on the market for four months.

A potential buyer has lodged a planning application asking for permission to change the home into a restaurant.

Padmini Sankar, from Bamford, wants to build a two-storey extension at the rear of the building and a first floor extension to one side in order to allow for kitchens and toilets.

She said in her application that she would source similar stone to that of the original building.

She also said that the restaurant would only open until 9.30pm during the week and 10.30pm at weekends.

But three residents have made formal objections to the plans, arguing that the change of use would spoil the Ramsbottom Conservation Area, which the building is part of.

Councillors are due to make a decision on the application at a planning meeting on September 18.
