DRIVERS travelling through a town centre face delays following the discovery of a gas leak.

Gas network company Cadent has revealed that there is a leak on a gas main that sits directly under Railway View Road in Clitheroe.

Engineers have been working throughout the day to fix it but the company has said a specialist contractor is needed to fix the problems. The contractor is expected to arrive in the next few days.

Traffic lights have been installed near Clitheroe Station to move drivers around the hole in the road and is expected to add extra time to journeys.

A spokesman said: "Please be prepared then for disruption to your journey on what we know is already a busy road.

"We have traffic lights in place to safely move traffic around our hole in the road, which is already adding extra time to journeys.

"We really appreciate your patience and hope you understand this is essential work to ensure your safety.

Letters will be sent out to local schools and properties in the nearby area to inform them of the expected delays.
