VICTIMS of domestic abuse in Blackburn with Darwen will be getting extra help after the awarding of a National Lottery grant to a lifeline charity.

Staff at the Wish Centre were delighted to have been awarded £425,764 to support high risk victims of domestic abuse in the borough.

Chief executive Shigufta Khan said: "As a specialist domestic abuse service we have long recognised the need to provide specific targeted interventions to support victims with additional needs who suffer domestic abuse.

"This project is being supported by Blackburn and Darwen Council and other stakeholders and adds a new dimension to our portfolio.

"This funding boost will enable us to support victims and their families in Blackburn with Darwen and we are extremely proud to have been awarded this funding

"In Blackburn with Darwen we are passionate about ending all forms for domestic abuse.

"We welcome the additional support that will be delivered by The Wish Centre under this project, and look forward to working together supporting survivors of abuse."

Councillor Shaukat Hussain, of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “This funding is excellent news, and will help the Wish Centre to provide the help and support to the people who need it. It is vital for funding to continue programmes like this and this will help the centre to engage with more people and families where this is an issue.”
