A popular Oswaldtwistle pub is getting ready to open its doors again, following a massive £300,000 refurbishment.

The Britannia Inn on Haslingden Old Road has been completely transformed, and manager, Jim Turner, says once it re-opens, the venue will be totally unrecognisable.

Revamped in the style of a farmhouse kitchen, the country restaurant and bar will be taking a new approach to it's hospitality, offering quality food sourced from farms across East Lancs.

Mr Turner, who will be running the restaurant and bar along with his wife, Ellen, said: “It’s going to be all about quality – our food can’t get much fresher, as the meat and vegetables are all coming directly from our local family farms.

"We’ll even have photos of the farms on the walls throughout the bar and restaurant.

“We’re very excited about re-opening later this month. Nobody will recognise the place, it looks so different.

“It’s a great place and it just needed investment and there’s been about £300,000 spent on it."

The new rustic look of the Britannia Inn is set to complement the farmhouse kitchen menu, and will feature lots of reclaimed wood while sill managing to retain some of the old character.

Mr Turner said: "The place has got great character and we have kept some of the complimentary features and bric-a-brac too."

In March, a planning application submitted by Thwaites Brewery, to build a new outdoor pergola on the site was approved by Hyndburn Council.

The pergola will enhance the outdoor space by providing a shaded walkway and sitting area, which will be held up by vertical posts.

New hardwood decking has been installed to the rear of the pub, which will feature a number of tables and chairs, glass doors and new lighting.

The updated changes have also led to the creation of nine new jobs in the kitchen and front of house teams with a vacancy for a chef still available.

Work began on the site on August 13, and the pub, which is operated by Thwaites Brewery, is set to re-open on Saturday September 29 at 1pm.

Customers are urged to book tables in advance to avoid disappointment.
