THIRTY new homes are to be built on the site of a disused mill.

After a 10-year wait, the site of the old Victoria Mill on Watt Street in Sabden will be replaced with a range of three to five bedroom homes, it has been confirmed.

The developer, Skipton Homes, will demolish the mill and rebuild the former tower building in order to restore it to its former glory.

Sarah Barraclough, Operations Director of Skipton Properties, said: “This has been a challenging planning process for the team.

“We are extremely happy to know our hard work has been recognised.”

The scheme will offer three to five bedroom homes, as well as offering a select few houses for the over 55s.

It will also feature an ‘ecological tower’ – the former mill tower reinstated at a lower height – and a public realm with features that will pay homage to the site’s past.

Speaking when plans were submitted,Cllr Richard Newmark, who represents Sabden on the Ribble Valley Council, said: “The mill has been empty for a number of years now, it is not looking nice at all, parts of it are falling down, it’s a danger.

“The regeneration of the site with housing will be a positive thing for the area, it’s much needed.

The company hopes to begin works on the development at the beginning of next year.
