ROTARY Club members were congratulated by their chief for their work in transforming a railway station.

District governor Mary Bradley visited Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary to hear about how they removed weeds from both the platforms and outside the station.

Four tonnes of chippings were added, eight planters filled with blooming flowers, and the subway was repainted and cleaned to make it more attractive for travellers.

A weekly rota has been put into place to ensure the flowers are watered on time.

Past president Jim Hargreaves purchased a large model engine with carriages, which has been the subject of many compliments from the community.

Mrs Bradley said: “I have heard quite a lot of what club members have done at the railway station, and after seeing what has been achieved I must congratulate members of Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary for the transformation they have made both inside and outside the station.

“This is a grand project and puts the image of Rotary into a very favourable focus with the local people of the area.”
