LORD Shuttleworth is to unveil the foundation stone of a new school that has been named after his family.

Lord Shuttleworth, who is the Queen's personal representative in Lancashire, will lead the ceremony on the site where Shuttleworth College is being built.

The new school will be built on the former Gawthorpe High School campus, Burnley Road, Padiham, on land that used to be owned by the Shuttleworth family.

The event will take place next Tuesday at 9.30am and the school is due to open in September next year.

The ceremony will also feature speeches from County Councillor Vali Patel, cabinet member for schools, and Andrew Mackenzie, head teacher of Shuttleworth College.

Afterwards there will be light refreshments at the college's temporary home in Kiddrow Lane, Burnley.

Shuttleworth College, for 11 to 16 year olds, is in the first wave of Lancashire County Council's £250 million Building Schools for the Future programme.
