ANTI-burglar paint is the latest tool police are using to combat crime and anti-social behaviour.

Blackburn police have been given the paint by B&Q, Grimshaw Park, Blackburn.

And officers at the neighbourhood policing team are urging residents to nominate problem areas where the paint can be applied.

The anti-burglar paint acts a deterrent as it makes climbing difficult and dangerous.

When applied to fences, railings, drainpipes or any other surfaces the paint leaves a permanently greasy residue.

Residents in the Infirmary area can also attend the next Police and Community Together (PACT) meeting at Ivy Street Community Centre, Blackburn, on October 10 at 6pm to raise crime or anti social behaviour issues.

Michelle Mayer, police community support officer for the Infirmary area, said: "From time to time residents complain about offenders climbing up walls, fences and railings on to shed and garage roofs and other buildings.

"The paint will be applied to anything over 8ft tall.

"Anti burglar paint is an inexpensive way to give added security to a property and I am grateful to B&Q for the generous donation.

"Not only does the paint make it extremely difficult for offenders to access places they should not, but it also leaves a mark on their clothing so this will make our job easier when identifying them.
