A TWO-MONTH improvement project being carried out at a council car park is about to be completed.
More than £95,000 has been spent on the work at Holgate Street car park, Great Harwood, which was prone to flooding and being used as a dumping ground for untaxed vehicles.
The work is due to be completed on Friday, although the car park may be closed for a short period afterwards to allow for fencing work to be completed.
The improvement works have included a resurface, new kerbs, parking bay markings including disabled spaces, installation of drainage and lighting.
Further work to the surrounding planted and grassed areas is expected to be completed by November.
Coun Lynn Wilson, chair of Great Harwood area council, said: "These improvements are a major bonus to the shops and business at the top end of the town.
"Great Harwood area council has contributed £10,000 to this scheme, because the Town Gate shopping area is a major asset to the town centre and Holgate Street car park is a key means of visitors using the shops in this area."
