A CAMPSITE owner has positively identified an on-the-run East Lancashire sex offender and his girlfriend as the missing Jersey kayakers.

And Gerard Hayslop's father has urged his son, from Burnley, to "hand himself in" as the police hunt centres on him and his pregnant girlfriend Louise Howarth-Lee, 20.

Officers have shown photographs of Hayslop, 26, and Ms Howarth-Lee to a Jersey camp-site owner where a couple - who prompted a massive search off the island's coast when they failed to return after renting kayaks last month - stayed.

He has told police he was "99 per cent" certain the missing kayakers are Hayslop and Ms Howarth-Lee.

The kayakers were last seen at the campsite and police believe they left the false names, Andrew Keeble and Hannah Tye and an address in Healey Wood Road, Burnley.

A warrant for Haysop's arrest was issued last month when he skipped bail after being found guilty of child porn offences.

His father, also called Gerard, said he had received a phone call from his son saying they had used the kayaks to paddle to France. He said his son was in Lyon and needed cash.

He said: "They should hand themselves in to the police to get it over and done with. They have no money and she may need medical treatment because he told me she was losing blood."

A Lancashire police spokes-man said: "It is probable they are the couple we are looking for but we are awaiting results of DNA tests on their possessions.

"The campsite have been shown photographs and they are 99 per cent sure it is them."

Hayslop Jnr, was convicted at Burnley Crown Court of 20 counts of making an indecent photo of a child. He claimed he downloaded child porn for research.
