DOUBLE yellow lines are set to be introduced outside a Burnley school in a bid to cut down on dangerous parking by parents.

The acting headteacher of Worsthorne County Primary School has written to Lancashire County Council asking for waiting restrictions because she said youngsters were being put at risk by parking in Brownside Road.

Acting head Margaret Calvert said she hoped the measure would help solve some of the parking issues. She said: "There have been quite a lot of problems in the area with cars because although Brownside Road leads to the village it is a major road and gets very busy.

"The problems we have at the school are mainly congestion, and hopefully the imposition of double yellow lines will help to alleviate some of the problems we have had in the past."

The proposals will be discussed at a meeting of the Lancashire Local: Burnley committee next Monday Ray Bennett, of Lancashire County Council's environment directorate, said: "Parked vehicles, generated by the school, are obstructing Brownside Road during peak school hours and placing vulnerable road users at risk by obstructing sight lines and drivers undertaking inap-propriate manoeuvres."

Plans for similar schemes in Cedar Street and Irene Street, Burnley, will also be considered at next week's meeting.

A report to the committee says Cedar Street is often congested because of double parking and that delivery vehicles find access to castings company Lupton and Place Ltd difficult because of congestion in Irene Street.
