A drug addict who flouted a community order imposed for car theft has been jailed for 89 days.

Burnley Magistrates heard how Mark Butterworth, 29, had breached the order a second time and had shown a very poor response.

Butterworth, of Elgin Crescent, Burnley, admitted breaching the 12 month order, with a nine month drug rehabilitation order.

He had earlier received it for taking a vehicle without consent, driving whilst disqualified and no insurance.

The bench revoked the order and resentenced.

Richard Taylor, defending, said Butterworth had gone to the Thomas Project for drugs users in Blackburn but had an argument with his father, was homeless and had no contact with the probation service. .

The solicitor said the defendant had kept out of trouble, stayed off drugs and was reconciled with his father.

He had previous convictions for driving whilst disqualified but had not committed further crime since the offences in January this year.
