A SHOPLIFTER who boasted of carrying 'protection' in his pocket has been banned from all Burnley town centre stores.

Lloyd McMillan, 21, was also jailed for 120 days for a string of offences.

The two-year ban - part of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order - will become active on his release.

McMillan, of Reed Street, Burnley, will not be allowed to enter Anchor, Prestige, or Pioneer retail parks, Charter Walk shopping centre, or Tesco.

Drug addict McMillan admitted burglary with intent to steal, three counts of failing to comply with a community order, failing to surrender, two theft charges, being drunk and disorderly, and using threatening or abusive behaviour.

Sophie Lorimer, prosecuting, said McMillan was detained by a staff member at Sportsworld after hiding stock in his jacket.

McMillan told them: "I have got protection in my pocket. I will use it and you are dead."

Mrs Lorimer said McMillan was later detained by a worker at Woolworths, but tried to get away. He pulled her hand off his shoulder and bent it back.

David Lawson, defending, said McMillan's record in the recent past was appalling.

He had had to fend for himself since the age of 15, and had then been moved from pillar to post.
