TWO members of the SAS who helped rescue hostages to end a siege at the Iranian Embassy in London in 1980 will talk about their daring exploits in a show at Colne Muni next Saturday.

Comedian Jim Davidson will host the evening - a Night with SAS Legends - when Pete ‘Minky’ Morrison DCM and Pete ‘Snapper’ Winner will talk about their part in Operation Nimrod which millions witnessed on the TV news.

Six gunmen from a group called KSA took 26 people hostage in the embassy demanding the release of prisoners in the Souther Iranian province of Khuzestan in return for the hostages’ freedom.

The hostages included embassy staff, police officers who were guarding the building and visitors to the embassy.

After a stand-off lasting six days, one of the hostages was killed prompting the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to send in the SAS.

They abseiled from the roof of the building and broke in through a window. In the ensuing gunfight five of the six hostage-takers were killed and all but one of the hostages was rescued alive.

Jim Davidson, who has often toured forces’ bases around the world, is chief exeuctive of Care after Combat and will be talking about the work of the charity close to his heart during the show.

He will interview the two SAS veterans which will also feature video footage and stills of the dramatic rescue.

Jim will also be providing some light-hearted humour to the show, without taking away the poignancy and true facts about the event.

At the end of the fund-raising evening, there will also be an opportunity for the audience to meet and have photos taken with the two legends at the end of the evening.
