RAIL passengers have faced disruption after a driver crashed their vehicle into a bridge.

The incident happened at around 6.30pm today at Church and Oswaldtwistle station in Market Street, Church.

Train services running through the station were either delayed or cancelled by up to an hour.

Trains that run through the station could not run and alternative transport had been requested.

Customers from Leeds and Hebden Bridge for stations between Blackburn and Preston were advised to travel via Manchester where possible.

Commuters faced disruption until around 8pm when all lines were re-opened again.

Northern tweeted: "TRAVEL UPDATE: Following a road vehicle colliding with a bridge at #ChurchandOswaldtwistle all lines have now reopened."
