ACCRINGTON will be leading the way for events this weekend as the summer holidays come to an end.

Families may be gearing up for the return of school next week, but there are still plenty of exciting events taking place across East Lancashire this weekend.

Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Hyndburn as Amazing Accrington prepares for a town takeover tomorrow from 10am to 4pm.

The organisers of Amazing Accrington’s first-ever Rally Challenge, sponsored by Hippo Motor Group in collaboration with Hyndburn Council, are calling for vintage, classic, supercars or rally cars to come and take part in a rally challenge.

Visitors will also be able to indulge in a wide selection of chocolates as part of Accrington’s first-ever Chocolate Festival.

There will be over 20 stalls, live music and other entertainment, including a treasure hunt and guest appearances from Oompa Loompas.

Animal lovers can head to Burnley for the Horses and Ponies Protection Association’s (HAPPA) annual open day at Shores Hey Farm, in Black House Lane, Briercliffe tomorrow from 11am.

During the day there will be horse displays in the indoor arena by the HAPPA team, a talk by Stanley House veterinary surgeons, and a unicorn magical story featuring the HAPPA ponies. There will also be a number of craft and other stalls, including face-painting.

Tribute band Pinked Floyd will be on stage at Blackburn Empire Theatre tomorrow from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15.

Also in the town, printmaker Julia Swarbrick will be giving a free demonstration at Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery from 1pm to 3pm tomorrow.

Salthill quarry in Clitheroe hosts a fossil hunt tomorrow from 11am to 2pm.
