A SON has admitted threatening to kill his own mother.

Blackburn Magistrates Court heard how Macauley Declan Cook, of Haslingden, threatened to murder his mum at her home in Clayton-le-Moors last month.

The mother said she feared that her son would have carried out the threat he had made to her on July 31.

The 22-year-old, of Grane Road, later threatened to smash the windows at his mother's house and damage her car, a Vauxhall Agila.

He pleaded guilty to both offences and was sentenced yesterday. He was given a five-year restraining order, which means he will not be able to contact his mother during that time or visit her house.

Cook was told by magistrates he remained a threat to both his mother and the public following a long history of 'aggravated offences'.

This included an armed robbery at an off-licence in Preston four years ago, when he was aged just 17.

The chairman of the bench said: “You have been charged of threats to kill your mother and threats to do damage to her property.

"We have to take into account a history of aggravated offences and threats to use a weapon shortly after release from prison.

"Your previous convictions of repeat offending mean we do not consider there to be any mitigating factors and we have noted that you are also in breach of bail.

“It is our duty to reduce crime and protect the public and presently you remain at risk to your mother, the public and of reoffending.”

Cook, who has previously lived in Accrington, received a prison sentence of 26 weeks, suspended for 18 months.

He was also ordered to do 30 days of rehabilitation and pay a victim surcharge of £115.
