A FIVE-YEAR-OLD has completed conquering the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest three times in seven months.

Daisy Hooper climbed the 1,850ft steep face of Pendle Hill - famous for its witches - for the 52nd time since February in aid of Pendleside Hospice on Saturday.

And she finished her climb, like she has the other 51, by cartwheeling along the track at the foot of the hill.

Celebrating her final ascent Daisy, wearing her bright yellow Pendleside T-shirt, said: “I liked climbing in the snow best because I loved sledging down on my bottom."

More than 100 people joined Daisy for her final assault including her mum and dad Sam and Danny, her twin sister Poppy, her brother Jack, 6, and sister Molly, 2.

Dad Danny, a service manager at Adpak, Nelson, and a football coach, said: “Daisy is an absolute superstar. She started this when she was only four and only turned five in June. She always finishes the gruelling climb by cartwheeling when we are back on level ground.”

Daisy, of Lower Manor Lane, Burnley, is now planning another fundraiser next June when she hopes to conquer the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

The marathon climb by Daisy has raised several thousand pounds for Pendleside Hospice in Burnley.

Pendleside chief executive Helen McVey said: “I think Daisy is amazing. For a person of any age to do what she has done is incredible.

"For a five-year-old to do it is unbelievable.

“It is exceptional for someone so young to be able to raise the awareness of the care provided by the hospice and raise money like Daisy has done.”

Daisy, who attends St Mary’s Primary School, Newchurch in Pendle, set herself the mission to raise the money at the beginning of the year.

Her dad Danny said: “We saw some people selling raffle tickets for the hospice in Burnley town centre. When I explained what a hospice was she said she wanted to raise money for it.

“She said she would climb Pendle Hill 100 times but we decided on 52 as it is the equivalent of climbing Everest three times. She has walked and climbed in all weathers including snow, rain, wind and hot sunshine.”
