HOLIDAYMAKERS and day trippers from Lancashire are being urged to send postcards to care home residents across the county.

Social care bosses believe a simple greeting and a little information about a day out, activity or place can brighten someone's day.

This often spark residents memories of past holidays and launch conversations between residents.

The 'Postcards for Kindness' initiative is run by Lancashire County Council.

So far 83 care homes have signed-up including all those run by the county council. They include seven in Burnley; two in Hyndburn; six in Pendle; seven in Ribble Valley and six in Rossendale.

Cllr Graham Gooch, county council adult services boss, said: "By taking a few minutes to send a postcard telling someone about your holiday or day out, you could make a real difference to their lives.

"It may bring back happy memories or encourage them to talk to others and research shows this has many health benefits, especially for people living with dementia.

"Tackling loneliness and isolation among older people is a key health issue. Postcards for Kindness is a key part of our plans.

"Sending the postcard will help you connect with others, which will have a positive effect on your wellbeing too. Why not give it a try and get your friends and family involved."
