POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a serious assault at a gala.
The assault happened at Briercliffe Gala event, which was being held off Queen Street, at about 8.15pm on Saturday, July 7 this year.
This was also the day that saw England run out 2-0 winners against Sweden in the quarter final of the World Cup.
A man sustained serious injuries following an altercation near to the bar area that had been set up for the day.
The event was attended by hundreds of people and officers said it is believed several must have witnessed the incident.
Officers are now appealing for potential witnesses to come forward.
