A TOWN'S new car boot sale is set for improved food and drink provision after a successful open Sunday of stalls.

Hundreds of people attended the first event in Blackburn town centre between 8am and 2pm last Sunday with 20 sellers offering goods,

The same will take place every Sunday this summer and autumn on the new overspill Brown Street car park next to Blackburn bus station.

Blackburn with Darwen Council regeneration boss Cllr Phil Riley hopes even more people will turn up with goods to sell on Sunday and the event will grow steadily over the coming months.

He said: "We were really pleased with the turn-out given it was the first car boot sale we have hosted on this site. We have had really positive feedback from the people that attended with re-bookings for this week’s event.

"We have also had requests from food and drink sellers to take up pitches this week which is a really good sign that it’s gaining momentum.”

The event will be every week until Sunday October 28. Access to the site is from Barbara Castle Way to Penny Street.

Pitches are £10 in advance and £12 on the day.

Traders should arrive at 7am for 8am start. To book a pitch ring (01254) 666966.

Motorists are being advised to be careful travelling to the car park as bus lane cameras are in operation.
