A NEW road connecting the A677 Preston New Road, near to Samlesbury Hall, to the A59 Myerscough Smithy Road will open to the public at midday on Monday, August 6.

The 1.25 mile stretch, called Sir Frederick Page Way, will have a 30mph speed limit.

It also has clearway status, meaning vehicles will be prohibited from stopping or parking on the road at any time.

In addition to relieving pressure on Branch Road, Sir Frederick Page Way will provide access to the Samlesbury Aerospace Enterprise Zone.

The Enterprise Zone is home to BAE Systems, BAE’s Academy for Skills and Knowledge, and the Wincanton Defence and Logistics Centre. It is one of four strategic inward investment sites in Lancashire with Enterprise Zone status.

The new road is part of a wider infrastructure programme at Samlesbury which will enable more businesses to relocate to the area and enjoy better connectivity in and around the Enterprise Zone.

The road is named after Sir Frederick Page who died in 2005 aged 88. Has was chairman of the aircraft

division of British Aerospace, and has been described as one of Britain's most distinguished aeronautical

engineers.

Sir Frederick played a key role in the design and development of military aircraft such as the Canberra, Lightning, Jaguar, Tornado and Eurofighter. He started his aerospace career when he joined the aircraft division of English Electric at Preston in 1945.
