FIREFIGHTERS battled with a 100 square-metre grassland fire in Great Harwood.
Crews from Hyndburn, Great Harwood and Blackburn were called to Star Delph quarry near Blackburn Old Road at around 3pm yesterday.
A fire service spokesman said extra crews were called as there was a significant risk the fire would spread quickly.
The spokesman said: "The hard work off all crews involved prevented the incident becoming a far more serious one.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation.
"We would like to remind people of the dangers of making fires in the open.
"They can spread quickly and put people's lives in danger."
Crews used special grass fire equipment to put the blaze out, they were there for roughly three hours.
