A BUNCH of 450 balloons will be released at a street party on Saturday to mark the £450,000 spent on Darwen's new market square.
The party is being held in the revamped square to celebrate the end of regeneration works and disruption in Darwen.
Darwen Market Fun Day will be held for all the market traders, business owners and residents on the market square from noon, and the balloons will be released at 2.30pm.
Many Darwen businesses said regeneration works hit trade and it is planned the event will mark the start of a new era.
Eileen Guy, market hall representative, said: "It's to celebrate the end of this stage of the regeneration and to thank the traders and public who have been so patient."
It will be the first event to take place in the remodelled market square and activities planned include a Punch and Judy show, bouncy castle, children's entertainer, birds of prey, hair braiding, face painting. morris dancers and Darwen Brass.
The event will take place mainly in the market square although Bridge Street will be closed so a miniature train can give people rides.
The party will finish at about 3pm.
