TRAVELLERS have moved on to a site near council offices in Bacup.

The group parked on land near to Futures Park, Bacup, on Tuesday morning.

They parked on the road and council-owned land.

Notices were served on behalf of Lancashire County Council and Rossendale Council requiring them to leave by 4pm tomorrow (Thursday).

If the travellers don't move by then, the council said it will apply to the courts for a possession order.

Futures Park houses Rossendale Council offices.

PCSO Chris Hamer, who covers Bacup, Britannia, Weir and Sharneyford, tweeted on Tuesday: “There are some local concerns regarding a traveller encampment that has appeared on Futures Park today.

“This encampment is unauthorised and @RossendaleBC will be serving notices as soon as possible.”

A Rossendale Council spokesman said: “The travellers arrived yesterday (Tuesday) morning and parked on the road and council-owned land.

"Notices were served on behalf of Lancashire County Council and Rossendale Council requiring them to leave by 4pm tomorrow (Thursday).

“If this does not happen, we will apply to the courts for a possession order.”
