DRIVERS faced delays after a 'massive fire' in a van parked by the road.

Firefighters were called to the incident in Blackburn Road in Haslingden at around 5.25pm yesterday.

A van parked on the road had caught fire and one fire crew from Burnley was called to extinguish the blaze, which was believed to have started accidentally.

Miriam Henrich, a passenger in a car passing the fire, said: "The fire happened very quickly, it was massive.

"We drove past it and the heat you could feel was unbelievable.

"Windows were shut, obviously, but the heat you could feel was really unbelievable."

Diversions were put in place for drivers while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

A fire service spokesman said: "A van was on fire at the side of the road.

"It was in the engine compartment of the van.

"It was not started deliberately.

"Nobody was injured."
