PET lovers from across the area came out to show their support of some feline friends in need of help.

The first East Lancashire Pet Fest was held on Saturday at Hipping Vale Community Centre in Oswaldtwistle.

Eight different rescue charities attended, along with some of the animals they care for, while hundreds of guests came along to find out more.

Some of the charities in attendance included Cats Protection, RSPCA, Friends Of The Cats, Only Foals And Horses, Blackburn Cat Rescue, vets4pets, Little Tinkers, Moggies and German Shepherd Rescue.

It was organised by Andy Richards from Friends Of The Cats, based in Accrington, and aimed to raise awareness and promote responsible pet ownership.

He said: "The event was really good, it went really well.

"It was about getting messages across about how important it is to get pets microchipped, and why people should neuter their pets, it's for their health.

"It was great for us all to come together and talk about this sort of thing and spread the message."

He said he plans to host another event next year, and possible one before Christmas 2018.
