LANCASHIRE'S Police and Crime Commissioner has backed a new app developed by the Church of England to tackle the menace of modern slavery in the county's cash washes.

Clive Grunshaw said the device, which helps people pinpoint possible forced labour sites, could be crucial in tackling 'this serious and often hidden crime'.

The Safe Car Wash App, developed with the assistance of Pendle’s the Rev Canon Ed Saville, the Diocese of Blackburn's lead officer for social responsibility, helps motorists identify key indicators of possible modern slavery and contact the appropriate authorities.

Mr Grunshaw said: "Tackling modern slavery is a key priority in Lancashire and anything that brings offenders to justice and ensures those exploited get the help they need, can only be a good thing."
