A drunken man who was struggling to get back into the block of flats where he lived kicked out at the communal door.
Blackburn magistrates heard Gary Kevin Ward was upset because he had been arguing with his girlfriend.
Ward, 30, of Barnes Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.
He was ordered to pay £100 compensation.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client accepted behaving in a stupid way.
"He understands he will have to pay for the damage he caused," said Mr Taylor.
