THE son of an Alzheimer’s sufferer-turned ‘viral sensation’ singing star will talk about his book The Songaminute Man at Blackburn Library later this month.
On June 20 Simon McDermott will explain how he found a unique way for him and his father Teddy, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2013, to connect again by doing carpool karaoke.
They became famous after posting a video on YouTube which went viral across the globe and raised more than £150,000 to support the National Dementia Helpline and TalkingPoint.
In April HQ published the book, titled after Teddy's web nickname
Written with the help of family and friends,it follows his father’s life, from growing up in Wednesbury in the West Midlands as one of 14 children to their unexpected music success.
Teddy, who moved to Blackburn in the 1970s, has had a lifelong passion for singing and was a Butlin’s Redcoat before travelling the country singing in pubs and clubs.
