BURNLEY residents are being urged to make sure they have the right to vote during the next few weeks.

The council is delivering electoral registration forms to every home in the borough and for the first time this year, people not making changes to their existing details can confirm their details via the internet or telephone.

Those wishing to make changes will still need to complete the standard registration form.

Burnley Council's electoral registration officer Steve Rumbelow said: "The forms are quick and easy to complete and no stamp is required.

"It is very important you complete and return the form otherwise you may lose your right to vote as the forms are used to compile the electoral register.

"We would also encourage residents to take advantage of our online and telephone registration facilities, if appropriate to them, as this can make registering even easier."

Residents are required by law to return the form for their property.

Anyone who does not get one by mid-September or who needs help should contact the council on 01282 477261 or 477263.
